Programmes
& player pathway.

How training is structured at Queenkay Stars FC, which age groups we run, and what happens between a player's first session and their first competitive matchday.

The pathway

Three stages,
in order.

Every player joins at the stage that fits them and moves up when the coaching staff judge they are ready. Nobody is pushed up early to fill a squad.

1

Stage one · Ages 6–9

Grassroots

Ball mastery, balance and coordination through small-sided games. Sessions are short, high-repetition and deliberately fun — the aim is a child who wants to come back next week.

Focus: first touch · dribbling · basic passing · listening and teamwork

2

Stage two · Ages 10–14

Development

The technical base gets tested under pressure. Players learn positions, shape and when to release the ball, and start building the fitness that competitive football demands.

Focus: passing under pressure · positional play · game reading · match fitness

3

Stage three · Ages 15–17

Competitive

Representing the club in league and tournament football. Training moves to match preparation, opposition awareness, set pieces and the conduct expected of a Queenkay Stars player.

Focus: tactical detail · conditioning · set pieces · matchday discipline

Age groups

Where your
player fits.

Squads are grouped by age band. If your child sits on the edge of two bands, the coaching staff will place them after a trial session.

U9

Under 9

Grassroots stage. Introduction to the game through play, with an emphasis on comfort on the ball and enjoying training.

U11

Under 11

Late grassroots into early development. Technique becomes deliberate, and players start learning roles within a team.

U13

Under 13

Development stage. Structured sessions on passing patterns, defending as a unit and decision-making at speed.

U15

Under 15

Development into competitive. Physical conditioning increases, and squad selection becomes performance-based.

U17

Under 17

Competitive stage. Full match preparation, tactical work and the standards expected of players representing the club.

Not sure which?

Contact the club with your child's age and experience. The coaching staff will recommend a group and invite them to a trial session.

Note for the club: the age bands above are drafted as a starting point. Update them in programmes.html to match the squads Queenkay Stars FC actually runs this season.

Training

What a session
looks like.

Sessions follow the same rhythm every week, so players know what to expect and coaches can measure progress against something consistent.

Warm-up & ball work

Movement prep, then high-repetition technical work on the ball.

Skill block

One theme per session — passing, finishing, defending, transitions — coached and corrected.

Game situation

Small-sided or full-sided games applying the session theme under pressure.

Cool-down & feedback

Stretch, plus a short debrief so players leave knowing what to work on.
